Griffins Fall at Division I University of Delaware

The Chestnut Hill College men's basketball team took on Division I University of Delaware Tuesday night at UD's Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, Delaware, falling to the Blue Hens, 78-51

The Griffins fall to 3-6 overall while The Blue Hens improve to 6-4

Alejandro Redondo Cybak led the Griffins with 12 points while Noah Charles added 11.  Neal Hill led the team with eight rebounds, two blocks and five assists. IV Pettit had four steals 

Delaware scored the first seven points before Cybak scored seven straight points to tie the game at 7-7.  Omari Salvi added a layup to give the Griffins a 9-7 lead, completing a 9-0 run.  The Blue Hens rallied to retake the lead, 23-20 at the 7:58 mark with a 14-7 run, highlighted by two three point shots from Macon Emory.  Delaware pushed the lead to five, 27-22 before scoring ten straight points to lead 37-22.  Tommy Gardler and Kamal Lee added three -point baskets to close the gap to 11 39-28 and the Blue Hens answered with a three-ball to lead 42-28 at the half.

The Blue Hens extended the lead to 20points just two minutes into the second half before the Griffins rallied to cut the margin to 12, 52-40.  Delaware then added a 10-2 run to push the lead up to 22 points with eight minutes remaining, 64-42 before extending the lead to as many as 29 points before settling for the 78-51 win

Erik Timko led the Blue Hens with 17 points.  John Camden and Izaiah Pasha had eight rebounds apiece.

For the game, the Griffins shot 25.7% (19-74) while the Blue Hens connected on 43.9% of their shots (29-66).   The Griffins committed a season low six turnovers while forcing 16 turnovers by the Blue Hens.

The men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, December 14, 2024 when they host Seton Hill University.  Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
