The Chestnut Hill college Women's Basketball team faced their toughest opponent of the season on Sunday as they took on nationally ranked Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts, bowing to the Falcons 90-56.
The Griffins fall to 3-6 overall. The #6/#14 Falcons improve to 7-1 on the season.
Siobhan Boylan led the Griffins with ten points (4-6 FG) Bridie McCann added nine points while Bri Rider and Tiayo Adelekan chipped in eight apiece. Rider led the team with ten rebounds and three steals. McCann and Caleigh Edwards paced the team with three assists apiece.
Chestnut Hill's offense struggled in the first quarter, making just three field goals as the Falcons jumped out to a 22-7 lead. Bentley increased the lead to 20 early in the second quarter and led by 17 when an 8-3 run by the Griffins, capped with a layup from Kaya Mobley, closed the gap to 12, 40-28 with 1:22 left. The Falcons scored the final five points of the quarter to lead 45-28 at halftime.
Bentley used a 50% shooting effort in each of the final two quarters to increase their lead as the game wore on, outscoring the Griffins by an identical 45-28 margin in the second half to secure the 90-56 win.
The Griffins finished the game shooting a respectable 43.6% (24-55) from the field which included a 55.2% effort over the final three periods (21-38). Bentley, however dominated outside the arc, connecting on 14 three-point shots to CHC's four (a 42-12 scoring advantage). The Falcons held a 37-31 rebound edge and committed seven fewer turnovers (11-18).
The women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, December 7, 2024 when they travel to face Georgian Court University for the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game of the season. Tip off is set for 12:00 p.m.
