Alexandro Redondo Cybak and
Argel Pettit IV combined for 41 points as the Chestnut Hill College men's basketball team dropped a non-conference decision to visiting Caldwell University 85-61 Monday night at Sorgenti Arena.
The Griffins fall to 7-17 overall while the Cougars improve to 11-11.
Pettit led the Griffins with 22 points (68-14 FG, 3-5 3FG) while Cybak contributed 19 points while playing all 40 minutes.
Neal Hill led the team with 13 rebounds and six assists.
The teams battled for much of the first half with the Griffins holding a 32-30 lead with 3:34 left. Caldwell closed out the half on a 15-4 run to erase the Griffins lead and take a 45-36 lead at the half.
Two baskets from Pettit to open the second half cut the Griffins' deficit to five but the Cougars again erupted with another 15-4 run to take a 16 point lead 60-44 with 12:42 left. Three point baskets from
Marshall Baker and Pettit followed by a layup from
Noah Charles produced an 8-2 run as the Griffins cut the lead to ten 62-52 with 9:23 remaining. Caldwell still led by double-digits as the game wore on and scored the final 12 points of the game to complete the 24-point win.
Caldwell shot a very efficient 56.1% (32-57) from the field while Chestnut Hill shot 37.5% (21-56) from the field including a 41.7% effort from three-point range (5-12). The Cougars held a 35-32 rebounding advantage and committed two fewer turnovers (13-15).
The men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, February 17, 2024, when they host Bloomfield College. Tipoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
