The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team came almost all the way back from a seven-run deficit on Tuesday before dropping an 8-6 decision to host Kutztown University at KU's North Campus field in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins fall to 4-8 while the Bears improve to 5-11.
CHC's top five batters in the lineup provided all of their offensive spark, recording all eight of the team's hits and scoring five of their six runs.Â
Aiden Myers led the way with three hits, including a two-run home run and three RBI.Â
Justin Geiger had two hits and an RBI.
Ben Bradt took the loss for Chestnut Hill, struggling right out the gate, facing just seven batters and allowing four runs on three hits.Â
Michael Pascoe came in and tossed 4.2 innings of relief followed by
Brendan Long who tossed three innings.
The Bears scored four times in the first and added three more in the second to take a 7-0 lead before CHC's offense got going in the top half of the third inning.
Myer's hit a two-out single to score
Bobby Sabatino with the Griffin's first run with Pascoe, Geiger and
David Antone following with consecutive singles. Geiger plated Myers with his hit to left field and Antone drove in Pascoe with his hit.
Pascoe's sacrifice fly scored
R.J. Huth in the fifth inning, closing the deficit to three 7-4. Myers added his two run home run in the seventh to pull the Griffins within one 7-6.
The Bears added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh to lead 8-6. The Myers home run however was the last hit the Griffins would get as they went down in order in the eighth and ninth inning as KU hung on for the win.
Michael Lennon earned the win for the Bears. Jimmy Kerley hit a two-run home run and Colin Regn drove in three runs to lead the KU offense.
The baseball team returns to action on Thursday, March 14, 2024 for their home opener, hosting Indiana University of Pennsylvania at Hostelley Field. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
