Ravens Sweep Griffins

The Chestnut Hill College Softball team was swept by Franklin Pierce University Thursday afternoon, losing the opener 8-0 before falling in game two 11-0 at the CHC Softball Field.

The Griffins fall to 1-11 overall with the two losses.  The Ravens improve to 8-4.  Both games were called after five innings due to the eight-run rule.

Camille Dunham and Skyler Cunningham had singles in each of the two contests while Kayla Rolon had a single in the opener and Amaris Guzman had one in game two, giving the Griffins three total hits in each contest.

Michelle Baker took the complete game loss in the opener, allowing eight runs (six earned) on nine hits while striking out one.  Gabriella Quinones was tagged with the loss in the second game, allowing nine earned runs on 12 hits with one strikeout.

Chestnut Hill had their best opportunities to score in the first inning of each game.  In the opener Cunningham reached second on a two-base error but was stranded.  In game two, Dunham and Cunningham singled but Dunham was thrown out trying to take an extra base on the Cunningham single.  Cunningham also reached second in the bottom of the fourth after her single in the opener and Guzman reached second in the bottom of the fifth after her single in game two.

The Ravens scored runs in every inning except the first in the opening game, plating two in the second, solo runs in the third and fourth and exploding for four runs in the fifth to take 8-0 lead. Sabrina Gonzalez earned the win for FPU.

In game two, the Ravens scored five times in the first and added two more in the second inning for a 7-0 lead.  The Ravens then triggered the eight-run rule with four in the final at-bat in the fifth inning.  Sam Sylvester earned the win for the Ravens in game two.

The Women's Softball team returns to action on Sunday, March 24, 2024, when they travel to face Bloomfield College in Bloomfield, New Jersey.  First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
