Griffins Season Ends with a Quarterfinal Playoff Loss

A solid second half by host Bloomfield College in the quarterfinal round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Tournament,  ended Chestnut Hill's season as the top seeded Bears went on to defeat the Griffins 78-61 Tuesday night at the Bloomfield College Gym.

The Griffins finish their season with a 9-20 record.  Bloomfield improves to 21-8 and will play in the semi finals Saturday at Caldwell University.

IV Pettit led all scorers with 18 points  while Alejandro Cybak added 14 to pace the Griffins.  Cybak , Noah Charles and Neal Hill led the team with three assists apiece.

Hill also  grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, his seventh consecutive game with ten or more rebounds. He finishes the season with a school record 299 rebounds and currently leads the conference, averaging 10.3 per game (ninth in NCAA D-II).  His 299 rebounds are the 3rd highest total in the NCAA this season.

The Griffins built a double-digit lead midway through the first half, making ten of their first 18 shot to lead 26-13.  Five of Chestnut Hill's first ten baskets were three pointers, with Pettit connecting on three of them.  The Griffins still held a double-digit with 6:27 left in the half  following a Kamal Lee layup  Bloomfield closed out the half on an 8-2 run to cut CHC's lead to fiv 38-33 at the break.

Hill opened the scoring with a putback layup in the second half, increasing the lead to seven, 40-33.  The Bears then caught fire, taking control of the game with 18 straight points over the next seven minutes to build a double-digit lead of their own 51-40.

Donald-James Imo's three point basket broke the huge Bloomfield run  but the Bears scored the next seven points to lead 58-43 midway through the second half.  The Griffins never got any closed than 13 the rest of the way.

The Bears scored 50 of their 78 points in the paint and took advantage of 20 CHC turnovers, outscoring the Griffins 30-2 in the points off turnovers category.  Chestnut Hill shot 40% from the field (24-60) while Bloomfield shot close to 50% (32-65, 49.2%)  Both teams had nearly identical percentages form the free throw line (CHC-62.5%/BC- 66.7%) and three point range (BC- 28.6%/CHC 30.8%).

Starell Hearns led the Bears, who placed four players in double figures, with 17 points . Abdallah Elsaieh added 13 points while Al Fatir Conner and Deaveon Ellis had ten points apiece.

The loss concludes the season for the Chestnut Hill college men's basketball team.
