Griffins Soar to a 6-1 Win over Eagles

After dropping two conference matches earlier in the week, the Chestnut Hill College Men's Tennis team got back on the winning track in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a decisive 6-1 win over Post University Saturday afternoon at the CHC Tennis Courts.

The Griffins improve to 8-5 overall and even their record at 3-3 in league play, the Eagles, who upset the Griffins earlier in the week with a 5-2 win, fall to 2-9 overall and 2-3 in league play.

Chestnut Hill won the doubles point taking two of the three contests and went on to claim five of the six singles matches to earn the win.

Post won the first doubles match, recording a 6-1 win at #2 doubles.  Noah Cutting and Antonio Franquis evened things up with a 6-3 win over Anton Andersson and Niklas Langenfeld at #1 doubles.  Pedro Vicente and Siddharth Malik then clinched the first point for the Griffins with a 6-2 win at #3 doubles.

Joao Sousa defeated Langenfeld 6-1, 6-1 to open singles play, giving the Griffins a 2-0 lead.  Franquis followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Gustavo Kerber at #2 singles and Cutting clinched the match win with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Andersson at #1 singles.

Malik battled at the #5 singles spot with Ivan Kolchanov, winning the first set 6-4 while dropping the second 3-6.   The tiebreaker went down to the wire with Malik coming out ahead 12-10 to take the match 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (12-10).  Vicente added a straight set win, 6-4 ,6-4 at #6 singles to give the Griffins a 6-0 lead at the tie and round out their scoring.

Post recorded their only point at #3 singles.

The men's tennis team returns to action on Monday, April 15, 2024, with a match at regional powerhouse Queens college in New York.  First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
