Griffins Honor Seniors as They Close Out Season with Doubleheader Split

The Chestnut Hill College Baseball team closed out their season Sunday afternoon, celebrating their seniors and splitting their two-game series with Felician University.
Chestnut Hill won the opening game 8-4 before dropping the finale 3-2.

The Griffins finish their season with a 15-27 overall record and a 10-14 mark in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference games.

In between the two games, the team honored eight seniors who were playing or participating in their final games as Griffins.  The eight seniors have all contributed to the program's success during their time in a Chestnut Hill uniform.  Honored were pitchers Marlon Rose, Brendan Long, Zac Vittorelli and Pete Calandra; infielder John Crane; catcher Anthony Price and outfielders R.J. Huth and Calvin McCall.

Back to game action, a six-run sixth inning snapped a 2-2 tie in the opener as the Griffins went on to earn the 8-4 win,

Huth and Crane drove in two runs apiece in the opener as did freshman Dylan Broderick.  Broderick hit his third home run of the season and also posted six solid innings on the mound to earn his third win of the season.  Broderick allowed just six hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out three in the quality start.
With the game tied at 2-2, Aiden Myers led off the sixth with a single and later scored on an error as Justin Geiger reached base with Michael Pascoe advancing to third on the play.  Geiger stole second and both runners scored on Crane's hit through the right side, giving the Griffins a 5-2 lead.  Four batters later, Crane scored on Shawn LeVan's sacrifice fly.  Huth followed with a two-run double, his second two-bagger of the game to give Chestnut Hill an 8-2 lead.

Rose entered the game in the seventh an gave up two unearned runs to round of the scoring in the 8-4 win.

Broderick's two-run home run in the bottom of the second gave the Griffins' a 2-1 lead which held until Felician tied the game in the fifth inning after an errant throw on a double steal attempt.

Jake Schweiker took a tough loss in game two, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing all three runs (two earned) while striking out six.  Among the six strikeouts was the 100th strikeout of his Griffins career, becoming the 14th player in program history to reach the 100-strikeout plateau.

The Golden Falcons struck first with a run in the opening frame before Myers quickly evened the score with a solo home run to left field.  A delayed double steal in the bottom of the second saw Crane score from third as McCall swiped second and moved on to third base.

Felician's Jack Scrivanic's solo home run in the sixth tied the game at 2-2 and the Golden Falcon's strung together three hits to score the eventual winning run.  Felician's nick DeCarlo retired the Griffins in order to earn the save for Michael Caldon.

The two games concluded the Griffins' season, their 17th in program history.
