The Chestnut Hill College Softball team dropped both ends of their doubleheader against the University of Bridgeport on Saturday, losing the opener 6-2 and followed by a 9-1 five inning loss in the nightcap at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
The Griffins fall to 1-16 overall and 0-9 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Bridgeport improves to 11-17 overall.
Skyler Cunningham hit her first home run of the season and
Kayla Rolon had a double in the opener.Â
Gabriella Quinones took the loss allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits while striking out five.
The Griffins had five hits in game two with a double from
Mianna Lopez DelHaro's double being the only one that went for extra bases.Â
Michelle Baker took the loss pitching 4.2 innings and allowing all nine runs.
Cunningham's solo home run in the fourth inning tied the game at 1-1 where it remained until the Purple Knights plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. Bridgeport added two more in the sixth to lead 6-1.
Maya Kemper had a two-out single to score Rolon who had doubled in the seventh inning to account for the Griffins' final run.
Bridgeport led 1-0 in game two when Rolon tied the score with an RBI single in the fourth inning. The game remained tied until the bottom of the fifth when the Purple Knights sent ten batters to the plate, scoring eight runs to end the game via the eight-run rule with a final 9-1 score. Meg McFarland's two run home run with two out ended the game.
The women's softball team returns to action on Sunday, April 7, 2024, when they travel to face Holy Family University in a makeup of their doubleheader that was rained out on April 2. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
