Women's Tennis Team Competes at ITA Small College East Regional Tournament

Alison Isaac went 2-0 on the first day of the ITA East Regional Tournament, winning her only singles match and teaming with Lilian Bandel to earn a doubles win to advance to Saturday's action at the national Tennis Center in Queens, New York.

Isaac, seeded #13 in the women's singles competition, opened her day with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Genesis Belton of Adelphi University in the round of 64.  In the afternoon, she teamed with Bandel to earn an 8-1 win over Marianna Ling and Rea Hagashima from Queens College to advance to Saturday's round of 16.   Isaac and Bandel are seeded #11 in the doubles tournament.

Elena Arenas Guisasola is the only other Griffins' women's player to win a singles match on Friday, earning a 7-5, 6-3 win over Annabel Aldrete from Saint Michael's College in the round of 128.  Victoria Azcuna from Franklin Pierce University later defeated Arenas Guisasola 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4) in the round of 64.

Senior Romi Meirovich, seeded #26, lost her round of 64 match 6-2, 6-1 to Polina Georgeva of Franklin Pierce and Bandel dropped her round of 128 match 6-3, 6-4 to Augustina Ravera of the University of New Haven.

Meirovich and Arena Guisasola teamed to win their first doubles match in the round of 64, defeating Lina Benjelloun and Nadja Zmukic of the University of the District of Columbia , 8-1.  The duo then lost to #10 seed Caterina Federici and Zuzanna Wittkowska of Adelphi in the round of 32, 8-1.

Singles and doubles play continues on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the National Tennis Center in Queens, New York.
