Alison Isaac continued her solid run at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region Small College Tournament on Saturday at the National Tennis Center in Queens, New York, winning two matches to advance to Sunday's quarterfinal round.
On Sunday, Isaac dropped her quarterfinal match, thus ended the best run by a Griffins' Women's Tennis player since Laure-Anne Josso reached the quarterfinal round of the ITA Tournament in 2016.
Starting the tournament on Friday as the #13 seed, Isaac opened singles play Saturday afternoon with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kyra Bergmann of Queens College in the round of 32 to advance. In the round of 16 she defeated Regina Ruiz (#29 seed) of Queens, 6-4-62 to advance to Sunday's quarterfinal round.
On Sunday, Isaac faced Risako Umekuni from the University of New Haven. The #18 seed proved too much for Isaac as she defeated the Griffins' ace 6-2, 6-2. Umekuni went on to advance to Monday's championship match. Isaac finished singles play at the tournament with a 3-1 record.
Isaac started the day on Saturday with a doubles match as she and
Lilian Bandel took on top seed Katerina Liedback and Roisin Boyd of Adelphi in the round of 16, losing to the Panther players 8-2. Liedback and Boyd also advanced to Monday's doubles championship match. Isaac and Bandel finish doubles play with 1-1 records.
Sunday's women's quarterfinal match ended a successful ITA Tournament for the Griffins. Isaac's three wins in singles play were the most by a CHC player since Axe Owens recorded four wins in the 2015 ITA Tournament in the "B" singles draw (the last year the ITA had both A and B singles brackets).
The women's tennis team opens conference play at home on Tuesday, September 17 with a match against Dominican University. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
