Chestnut Hill Falls to Wilmington in Women's Soccer Action

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team opened up conference play Tuesday evening, falling to Wilmington University 2-1 at victory field in Lafayette Hill.

The Griffins fall to 0-2-1 overall and 0-1 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference games.  The Wildcats improve to 3-2-1 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Chestnut Hill scored their lone goal late in the first half as Lauren Sullivan tallied her second goal of the season in the 39th minute with Rebecca Dalton earning the assist.   Solid saves by Griffin goalkeeper Ellie Stratz (seven in the period) kept the score at 1-0 as the teams headed into the final 45 minutes of play.

The Wildcats got on the board in the 62nd minute tying the game following a long kick from Alyssa Ruggeri with the Griffins playing a man down due to an earlier red card.   Ruggeri added a second goal on a penalty kick in the 84th minute.

Stratz finished the game with 11 saves as the Wildcats out shot the Griffins 16-9 (13-4 on net).  Alyssa DeGeorge, Virginia Perry and Antonia Linus led the Griffins with two shots apiece. 

The women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday, September 25 when they travel to face Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, Delaware.  Kickoff time is set for 3:00 p.m.
