DeGeorge Strikes Twice as Griffins Defeat Lightning

Alyssa DeGeorge scored twice as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team recorded their first conference win of the season, defeating Goldey-Beacom College 2-1 Wednesday afternoon at NCS Field in Wilmington, Delaware.

The Griffins improve to 1-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games and 1-2-1 overall.  The Lightning fall to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in league play.  The win was also the Griffins' first at Goldey-Beacom's field since the 2012 season. (a 3-1 win).

DeGeorge put the Griffins on the board early, taking a pass from Lauren Sullivan and shooting the ball past GBC goalkeeper Nikki Cashin for a 1-0 lead just 4:29 into the game.  Chestnut Hill continued to be the aggressor on offense in the first half, adding nine more shots with one on net.

Griffins' goalkeeper Ellie Stratz faced only one shot on goal in the first half.

DeGeorge launched a long kick from deep that got past Cashin for a 2-0 Chestnut Hill lead just 1:19 into the second half.  Rebecca Dalton and Jenna Gagliardi assisted on the play.

The Lightning struck for their only goal in the 59th minute as Lexy Yeager got past a Griffin defender and put the ball into the right corner of the next past a diving Haley Esposito who took over 'keeper duties in the second half, cutting the lead to 2-1.

The Griffins defense did not allow another shot on goal the rest of the way, limiting the Lightning offense to just total shots in the final 32 minutes as the team hung on for the 2-1 win.

For the game, The Griffins outshot the Lightning 15-11 overall (6-2 on net).  DeGeorge and Kaitlyn Brace had two shots on goal apiece.  Sullivan and Virginia Perry (four shots total) added one shot on goal each.

The women's soccer team returns to action on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, when they host Jefferson University at Victory Field.  Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
