The Chestnut Hill College men's tennis team earned the first win of the season Tuesday afternoon, defeating West Chester University 5-2 at WCU's South Campus Courts.
The Griffins are now 1-1 on the season while the Golden Rams fall to 0-1.
Chestnut Hill opened the match with a sweep of all three doubles contest to take a 1-0 lead. Pablo Cervera and Menno Raeymaekers earned a 6-1 win over Brady Burns and Felix Weber to start things off. Filippo Relecom and Siddharth Malik followed with a 6-2 win over Lucas Henke and Andrej Urrutia to clinch the doubles point. Enzo Puppi and Alessio Lefevre completed the sweep with a 7-5 win over Mateos DeVasconcello and Robertson.
Cervera made it 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Henke at #1 singles while Arnaud Vangenechten followed with a 6-3, 6-4 win over John Markovic at #5 singles to give the Griffins a 3-0 lead.
Weber put the Golden Rams on the board with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 win over Puppi at #4 singles before Relecom clinched that match for the Griffins with a 7-5, 4-6 win over Urrutia at #2 singles. Raeymaekers rounded out the Griffin singles winners with a 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win over Burns at #3 singles. Â
The men's tennis team returns to action on Thursday, October 3, 2024, with a match at Ursinus College. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
