Shippensburg University spoiled the Chestnut Hill College Men's Soccer team's home opener on Saturday, defeating the Griffins 3-0 at victory field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins fall to 0-1-1 on the season while the Raiders open their season at 1-0.
The Raiders struck early, scoring just two minutes into the game on a header from Ashton Davies off a cross pass from Clay Waterman. Waterman set up the Raiders second goal in the 33rd minute to give Shippensburg a 2-0 lead which held heading into halftime.
Shippensburg added an insurance goal in the 50th minute to round out the scoring.
Andres Felipe Gomez had four shots to lead the Griffins while Diego Cruz added three (two on net). Â Rodrigo Artiga made 11 saves as the Griffins' netminder.
The Raiders outshot the Griffins 22-11 (13-5 on net) and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The men's soccer team returns to action on September 11, 2024, when they travel to face Shepherd University  in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
