Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Setters Rally to Tie Griffins, 2-2 in Women's Soccer Season Opener

The Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team took a 2-0 lead into the final five minutes of action in their season opening game against Pace University before the Setters rallied with two goals to forge a 2-2 tie with the Griffins.  The game was played at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, New Jersey.

Senior Abby Galazka scored both  Chestnut Hill goals on the afternoon.

Early in the first half, Alyssa DeGeorge took a shot that deflected off the Setters' goalkeeper and right onto the foot of Galazka who put it into the net for an early 1-0 Chestnut Hill lead in the 20th minute.

Galazka notched her second goal of the game in the 78th minute,  becoming just the ninth Griffin women's soccer player since the 2018 season to score two goals in a single game.  Virigina Perry earned the assist on Galazka's second goal.

Pace, however, rallied with a goal in the 85th minute and then tallied a second goal to tie the game at 2-2 in the 87th minute.  The Griffins had one more chance late but a shot from Jenna Gagliardi was saved by Anna Fiore, the setter's goalkeeper with just under two minutes remaining.

Statistically the two teams were fairly even with both goalkeepers, Fiore for Pace and Ellie Stratz for Chestnut Hill, finishing the game with three saves. Each team finished with five shots on goal and the Griffins held a 12-11 advantage in total shots.  Pace took one more corner kick (6-5) in the game than Chestnut Hill.

The women's soccer team returns to action on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, as they face Assumption University in their home opener at Victory field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.  Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
