Griffins Offense Produce Six Goals in a Shutout Win over Chargers

An offensive explosion of goals from the Chestnut Hill College Women's soccer team led the program to their biggest win since the 2021 season as they defeated Dominican University of New York, 6-0 Saturday afternoon at O'Brien Field in Orangeburg, New York.

The Griffins improve to 4-6 overall and 4-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference contests.  Dominican falls to 3-5-3 overall and 2-4-1 in league play.

Chestnut Hill's six goals are the most the program has scored in a game since October 12, 2021 when they defeated Lincoln University 9-0.  The six goals also equals the most the team has scored in a conference game (a 6-0 win over Concordia on October 11, 2014).

Five different players scored for the Griffins with Hayden Johnston tallying two goals and adding an assist.  Rebecca Dalton had one goal and assisted on two others while Chelsea Ritter and Abby Collins notched one goal and one assist apiece.

Virginia Perry scored the Griffins' first goal of the game at the 33:23 mark of the first half, off a free kick from the left side which found the back of net on the right side.

Collins picked up her first collegiate goal less than three minutes later, taking a pass from Dalton and putting it by the DU goalkeeper for a 2-0 lead.

The second half saw a barrage of four Chestnut Hill goals in a six minute span starting with Ritter receiving a cross pass from Collins in the box and scoring her first goal as a Griffin for a 3-0 CHC lead at the 58:46 mark.  Sixty-eight seconds later, Johnston scored the first of her two goals putting in a rebound for a 4-0 lead with Dalton getting the assist.

Johnston scored her second goal at the 62:18 mark went she sent a ball in towards the goal which rolled pass the Charger 'keeper.  Dalton scored the Griffins' final goal at the 64:46 mark taking a pass from Johnston and knocking it into the net.

Ellie Stratz and Haley Esposito combined for the shutout  with Stratz starting and playing the first half making one save and Esposito, the second half, making three saves. Stratz earned the win to improve to 4-2 on the season.

For the game, the Griffins outshot the Chargers 26-7 (16-4 on net).

The women's soccer team returns to action on October 18, 2025 when they travel to play Lincoln University.  Kickoff is at 12:00 noon.
