The Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis team is post-season bound for thew seventh consecutive year as they defeated Dominican University 6-1 Tuesday afternoon at the CHC Tennis Courts.
The Griffins improve to 5-5 overall and 4-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Their 4-4 record clinches a playoff spot in the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament as the team remains tied with Goldey-Beacom College for third place with two matches left. Dominican falls to 2-7 on the season and in league play.
Prior to the start on the contest, the Athletics Department along with the Women's Tennis team honored their one senior on the squad, Claudia Rasilla Romero. Rasilla Romero has been a part of the program for four seasons, winning 59% of her matches while a Griffins. She has also excelled in the classroom, earning numerous academic accolades over her collegiate career. The department presented her with a blanket with her name embroidered on it while the team presented her several gifts and flowers.
Back to the match, Rasilla and Veronika Lundgren teamed up to win their #2 doubles match, defeating Hope Brown and Hailey McGhee 6-2 while Elena Arenas Guisasola and Lilian Bandel earned a 6-3 win at #1 doubles to capture the doubles point for Chestnut Hill.
The Chargers tied the match at 1-1 earning the point as the Griffins defaulted at #6 singles. Chestnut Hill went on to capture all five remaining singles contests to complete the 6-1 win.
Lundgren defeated Elizaveta Kisel, 6-1, 6-1 at #3 singles and Bandel was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over McGhee at #4 singles to give the Griffins a 3-1 advantage. Rasilla then clinched the match for Chestnut Hill, earning a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Bryn Fitzmaurice at #5 singles.
Arenas Guisasola followed with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Vanya Tyagi at #2 singles and Milica Zagorac completed the sweep with a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8) win over Angelina Amelkina at #1 singles.
The women's tennis team returns to action on Wednesday, October 15, 2025 when they host Jefferson University for their final home match. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
