McKenzie has Career Night But Griffins Fall to Wildcats in five Sets

Micah McKenzie recorded a team-high 22 kills, but the Chestnut Hill College women's Volleyball team dropped a five-set contest to Wilmington University 3-2 Wednesday night at Sorgenti Arena.

The Griffins fall to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matches.  The Wildcats improve to 7-7 overall and 4-0 in league play.

Wilmington opened the match winning the first set 25-20, but the Griffins battled back to even the match at 12-1 with a 25-22 win in the second set.  The Wildcats went back on top 2-1, winning the third set 25-18.  Chestnut Hill came back to tie the match at 2-2 and send it to a decisive fifth set with a 25-21 win in set four.  The Wildcats opened a big lead in the final set and held off a late surge from the Griffins to win the set 15-9 and take the match.

McKenzie's 22 kills are the most by a freshman player in the CACC this season and the second highest total by a CHC freshman in program history, surpassed only by Madison McBride's 26 kills in a match in 2013. Kate Hanley added 16 kills.

Eight different Griffin players recorded at least one ace with Lilian Bandel and Alex Crespin notching three apiece. Katelyn Dougherty, Sofia Rodriguez and Maya Hopson had two aces apiece.  Rodriguez led the team with 39 assists while Crespin added a career-high ten.

Rodriguez and Crespin also recorded double-doubles on the night with Rodriguez recorded 16 digs and Crespin ten.  Sarah Allen led the team with 21 digs.  Nicole Dimiris had five blocks .

For the match, the Griffins recorded 55 kills to Wilmington's 46.  However CHC committed 36 attack errors while the wildcats made just 17.  Wilmington finished the match with one mare ace than the Griffins(17-16) and one fewer dig (77-78).  The Wildcats finished with 11 total team blocks to Chestnut Hill's five.

The women's volleyball team returns to action on Saturday, October 4, 2025 when they travel to face Caldwell University.  Tipoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
