The defense was solid for the most part except for one moment in the first half as the Chestnut Hill Women's soccer team gave up just one goal but dropped a non-conference regional contest to Southern Connecticut State University 1-0 Friday afternoon in New Haven, Connecticut
The Griffins fall to 3-6 overall while the Owls improve to 2-4-3.
Chestnut Hill had early chances in the first half, stringing together three shots on goal in the first 10:31 only to be stifled by SCSU goalkeeper Makenzi Pastreck. The Owls broke through with a goal in the 31st minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Lauren Sullivan added two more shots on goal in the second half but was unable to score. Sullivan had four of the Griffins' five shots on goal. Hayden Johnston recorded the other one.
The Griffin defense limited SCSU to just four shots on goal with CHC goalkeeper Ellie Stratz recording three saves on the evening. She currently ranks second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a 0.721 goals against average and an .881 save percentage.
The women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, October 11, 2025 when they travel to face Dominican University in Orangeburg, New York. Kickoff is set for 12:00 noon.
