Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Determined Griffins Earn Hard-fought Win over Tigers

A pair of early goals by the Chestnut Hill College Men's soccer team set the tone for their game against Holy Family University Tuesday night as a determined Griffins team  went on to defeat the Tigers 3-2 at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill.

The Griffins improve to 6-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in Central Atlantic collegiate Conference games.  The Tigers fall to 3-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in league play.  The win was the Griffins first outright victory against the Tigers since the 2018 season.  Heading into tonight's contest, the Griffins were 0-3-2 against Holy Family since their win in 2018.

"I am super proud of this group for finding a way to dig deep together and get a hard earned three conference points against a tough Holy Family team," said Griffins Head Coach Jesse Zafiratos.  "We won this game with personality and some timely goals early in the contest."

Chestnut Hill wasted no time, getting on the board just 1:19 into the contest when Kervening Thelistin took a cross pass from Abdoulaye Kamagate and put the ball in the net for a 1-0 lead.

Kamagate made it 2-0 in the fifth minute after receiving a long clear and dribbling past two defenders to add a goal to his earlier assist.  The goal was his fifth of the season.

The Tigers cut the lead in half with a penalty kick goal early in the second half. (53:57)  Now leading 2-1, the Griffins scored their third goal on a penalty kick in the 69th minute  as Andres Gomez scored on the kick.

The Tigers trimmed the lead to one, 3-2 in the 85th minute and continued to press in an attempt to get the equalizing goal.  CHC goalkeeper Rodrigo Artiga had two saves in the final five minutes to protect the lead.

Artiga finished the game with 11 saves.  The Tigers finished the game out-shooting the Griffins 19-13 (11-6 on frame).

The men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, October 11, 2025 when they travel to face Dominican University. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
