Sara Tamoun and Tiayo Adelekan recorded double-doubles as the Chestnut Hill College women's basketball team won their first game of the season, defeating Queens College 69-57 at the Molloy Tipoff Tournament in Rockville Centre, New York Sunday afternoon.
The Griffins improve to 1-1 with the win while the Knights fall to 0-2.
Tamoun led all scorers with 18 points (6-13 FG, 5-6 FT) while pulling down 11 rebounds. Adelekan recorded her second consecutive double-double to open the season putting up ten points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
Chestnut Hill's three remaining starters, Kaya Mobley, Tikyra Miller and Sabria Mann added seven points apiece. Mobley also had five rebounds and a game high assists. Adelekan, Mobley and Mann also had two assists apiece.
The Griffins jumped out to an early 16-6 lead  enroute to a 24-17 lead after the first quarter. Tamoun had nine points in the period. The Knights battled back with a second quarter run of 9-5 to pull within three 29-26 with 3:36 left.
Chestnut Hill scored the next ten points to take a 39-26 lead with just 1:31 left in thew period, getting two baskets from Mann, one apiece from Anaisah Malone and Kourin Carew and a pair of free throws from Bryce Harvey-Carr. Queens shaved one point off their Griffins lead by halftime as the teams went into the locker room with the Griffins leading 43-31.
The lead fluctuated between nine and 16 points throughout the third quarter with the Griffins maintaining a double-digit lead for all but six seconds in the period, taking a 60-47 lead into the fourth quarter.
The two teams did not produce much offense in the fourth quarter with the griffins making just three field goals and the Knights five. The Griffins, however, maintained their double digit lead throughout the final ten minutes to earn the 12-point win.
For the game, the Griffins outshot the Knights 39.1% (25-64) to 30.2% (19-63) from the field including a 50% effort (3-6) from three-point range. Queens made two more free throws in the contest, but the Griffins had better efficiency, making 66.7% (16-24) from the free throw line to QC's 52.9% (18-34).   Chestnut Hill also held a 51-43 rebounding advantage.
The women's basketball team returns to action on November 22, 2025 with a game at D'Youville University in Buffalo, New York. Tipoff is at 1:00 p.m.
