Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Johnston Scores Twice as Griffins Advance to CACC Semi Finals with a 3-0 Win over Lightning

Hayden Johnston scored twice as the third-seeded Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team won their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tournament game since the 2022 season, defeating  the #6 seed Goldey-Beacom College 3-0 at Victory Field #1 in Lafayette Hill Saturday night.

The win give the Griffins a 9-7-1 record on the season.  The Lightning conclude their season with a 6-9-3 mark.

The Griffins advance to the CACC Semi-finals where they will face #2 seed Caldwell University Tuesday afternoon in Caldwell New jersey.  Kickoff time is set for 1:00 p.m.

Johnston's two goals were her fifth and sixth of the season.  Abby Collins also scored for Chestnut Hill, netting her fifth of the season.

Haley Esposito recorded her second complete game shutout, making five saves, improving to 3-5 on the season.

Chestnut Hill had a dominant first half, outshooting the Lightning 12-1 but putting just three shots on net as both teams went into halftime deadlocked at 0-0.

Collins broke the 0-0 tie with the Griffins first goal of the night, heading a shot into the net off of Virginia Perry's corner kick in the 48th minute to put the Griffins on the board. Seventy-eight seconds later, Johnston took a pass from Lauren Sullivan on the right side and hit it into the net for a 2-0 Griffins lead.

Johnston added her second goal in the 51st minute driving on the left side and shot towards the net with the ball getting through the goalkeeper for an unassisted score and  a 3-0 Griffins lead.    The three goals came in a span of just over three minutes.

The Griffin defense then went to work limiting the Lightning offense to four shots on net, none of which proved difficult for Esposito to save and none of them came after the 75th minute as the team notched their seventh shutout of the season.

For the game, the Griffins had 11 shots on goal, with Johnston recording seven of them.  Collins, Rebecca Dalton, Bryce Westervelt and Maddie Camillo contributed one shot on goal apiece.  CHC  doubled up GBC on shots 24-12 (11-5 on net).

Chestnut Hill will face Caldwell University on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, with an opportunity to advance to the CACC Championship for the second time since the 2022 season.
