Thirteen players scored as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team cruised to an 87-55 win over Wilmington University at the WU Athletics complex in Newark, Delaware Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins improve to 15-12 overall and 11-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.
Tiayo Adelekan led three Griffins in double figures with 12 points, shooting a perfect 4-4 from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line. Bridie McCann added 11 points (5-10 FG) while Sara Tamoun chipped in ten (4-5FG). Cha'kya Johnson and Bri Rider had eight points apiece.
Caleigh Edwards led all players with eight rebounds while Tamoun, Adelekan and Annie Jackson had five rebounds apiece. Avery White led all players with five assists. McCann, Edwards, Tikyra Miller and Kaya Mobley had three assists apiece as the Griffins recorded a season high 24 assists in the game. White and Emily Sekerak led the team with two steals apiece.
Both teams exchanged the lead early in the first quarter before the Griffins broke a 6-6 tie with a 12-3 run to take control of the game, 18-9 at the 3:19 mark of the first quarter, increasing the lead to 26-16 by quarters end.
Chestnut Hill doubled their lead to 20 late in the second quarter and led 45-26 at the half.
Wilmington opened the third quarter with a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 14 before the Griffins countered with a 9-2 run to push the lead back over 20 at 56-35. Â Siobhan Boylan dropped five points in the final 2:16 as the Griffins led 67-44 heading into the final quarter.
An 11-2 run by the Griffins pushed the lead to 78-46 and the lead shrunk under 27points the rest of the way. Jackson took a pass from Julianna DiFebbo with 2:25 left and sank a three-point basket to make the score 83-53 and baskets from Johnson and Anaisah Malone provided the final points for the Griffins who finished with the 32-point win.
For the game, the Griffins made a season-high 36 field goals and shot 50% (36-72) while holding the Wildcats to a 26.4% (19-72) shooting effort. CHC held a 49-44 rebounding advantage although the Wildcats got the better of the Griffins on the offensive glass 23-15. Chestnut Hill also committed four fewer turnovers (12-16).
The Women's basketball team returns to action for their final regular season game, taking on Georgian Court University at Sorgenti Arena. Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m. Â
