The Chestnut Hill college softball team opened their season Sunday afternoon, dropping a pair of games against the College of Staten Island, 2-0 and 10-2 at Seton Hall University's Mike Sheppard Field in south Orange New Jersey.
Izabella Rodriguez drove in both runs in the second game with a single and a triple. Jenn Pokropinski had the other hit for Chestnut Hill a double and also scored both runs. Rebecca Cessna took the loss, pitching three innings and allowing five runs on five hits.
Rodriguez tripled to center field to score Pokropinski in the second, giving the Griffins a 1-0 lead. CSI scored five times in their half of the second to take a 5-1 lead and added solo runs in the fourth and fifth innings to lead 7-1. Rodriguez added a sixth inning single to again score Pokropinski to cut the lead to 7-2. The Dolphins scored three times in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.
Gabriella Quinones pitched two innings and took the loss for the Griffins in the opener. The senior pitcher allowed just one run on one hit, with the Dolphin run scoring on a bases loaded walk.
Anastasia Watson had the only hit for the Griffins in the opener.
The softball team returns to action on Thursday, February 27, 2025, with a doubleheader at Millersville University. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
