The Chestnut Hill College Softball team had their six game winning streak snapped Wednesday afternoon as Delaware State University swept a doubleheader from the Griffins, 6-3 and 11-0 at the DSU softball field in Dover Delaware.
The Griffins are now 7-8 overall while the Hornets improve to 8-9.
Amaris Guzman had two of the Griffins' seven hits in the opener while Izabelle Rodriguez drove in two of the Griffins' three runs. Rebecca Cessna took the complete game loss, allowing six hits and four earned runs (six total) while striking out three
The Griffins scored all three of their runs in the third inning. Camille Dunham was hit by a pitch to start the offense and Christina Contreras followed with a single. Rodriguez then delivered a two-out double to plate both runners and give CHC a 2-0 lead. Alauna Kelley followed with a single to score Rodriguez with the third Griffin run.
Cessna did not allow a hit through the first three innings before giving up three in the fourth, leading to two DSU runs. The Hornets then tied the game in the fifth inning and scored three more in the sixth inning to round out their scoring en route to the 6-3 win.
The Griffins struggled both offensively and defensively in game two as the Hornets jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and scored runs in each of the next three as they recorded a five-inning 11-0 win.
Anastasia Watson and Jazmine Ramirez had the only two hits for the Griffins with Watson's second inning single extending her hitting streak to ten games. In the field, the Griffins committed an uncharacteristically high six errors, leading to seven unearned runs.
Michelle Baker took the loss to fall to 0-2 on the season.
The women's softball team returns to action on Saturday, March 15, 2025, as they begin conference play by hosting Bloomfield College at the CHC softball field. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. Â
