The Chestnut Hill College Men's Basketball team clinched a home playoff game for the second time in three seasons Saturday afternoon, defeating Georgian Court University 76-64 at Sorgenti Arena.
The win gives the Griffins a 14-13 mark overall and a 9-7 mark in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games, finishing the regular season tied with Jefferson university for the top mark in the CACC South division while earning the #2 seed in the division for the upcoming conference playoffs. The Griffins will be at home on Tuesday March 4, 2025, hosting the #3 seed from the north division University of Bridgeport. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.   chestnut Hill last hosted a CACC playoff game in March of 2023.
Prior to the start of the game, the athletics department and the men's basketball team honored four senior players and three senior managers who are in the final season with the program. Honored were senior players, Noah Charles, Lucas Dunn, Donald James-Imo and Neal Hill along with managers Jordon Tennent, Junior Desty and Myron Brooks. The honorees have been an integral part of the program's success throughout their respective careers, as the team qualified for the CACC Championship Tournament in every season that they played.
IV Pettit led all scorers with 23 points. Alejandro Redondo Cybak and Charles added 12 points apiece while Dunn chipped in ten. Cybak recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 11 rebounds to go along with the 12 points while Hill led all players with 13 rebounds, five assists and three blocks.
The Griffins led this one wire-to-wire jumping out to a 17-5 lead at the 9:52 mark following a three-point basket from Kamal Lee. The Lions came as close as ten in the half before the Griffins scored the final five points of the period to lead 30-15 at halftime.
Chestnut Hill maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half, and used a 13-3 run to grab their biggest lead at 53-29 with 12 minutes left.  The Lions, however slowly chipped away at the lead, outscoring the Griffins 26-13 over the next seven minutes to cut the gap to 11, 66-55 with 4:46 left. Chestnut Hill's defense tightened up the rest of the way, allowing just two field goals the rest of the way and holding their double-digit advantage throughout the final minutes to come away with the 12-point win.
For the game, the Griffins shot a solid 48.1% from the field (25-52) while the lions connected on just 30.1% of their shots (22-73). The griffins doubled up the Lions at the free throw line (20-27 to GCU's 10-32) while also holding a 43-37 rebound advantage.  Georgian Court made ten three point baskets to Chestnut Hill's six.
The men's basketball team will host a quarterfinal round playoff game on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 when they face the #3 seed from the North the University of Bridgeport. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.Â
