The Chestnut Hill College Softball team's offense struggled in Saturdays doubleheader at Caldwell University as the Cougars swept the Griffins 12-4 and 9-1.
The two losses drop the Griffins to 9-13-1 overall and 2-4 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference games. The cougars improve to 7-12 overall and 3-1 in league play.
A bright spot among the two games was Anastasia Watson recording a hit in each game, extending her school record hitting streak to 16 games.
Kayla Rolon had two of the Griffins' five hits in the opener along with an RBI. Skyler Cunningham had a double and an RBI. Watson also drove in a run. Isabelle Tetreault suffered her first loss of the season (4-1) giving up seven runs (six earned) on nine hits while striking out one.
Izabella Rodriguez walked, stole second and later scored on Watson's RBI single in the first inning. Rolon followed with a single, scoring Watson, giving the Griffins a 2-0 lead.
The Cougars scored three times in the first inning and added four more in the third to take a 7-2 lead. Cunningham's double scored Rolon with CHC's third run. The senior third baseman later scored on a wild pitch to make the score 7-4.
Caldwell ended the game in the fifth inning as they produced five runs on only two hits to invoke the eight-run rule with the 12-4 win.
Watson and Rolon had the only two Chestnut Hill hits, recording  back-to-back singles in the second inning. Jenn Pokropinski then drew a walk to load the bases before Lucianna Boggi hit a sacrifice fly to score Watson, giving the griffins the early 1-0 lead.
The one run was all the Griffins offense would get as the Cougars held them hitless the rest of the way. Caldwell scored once in the second and added six more in the third for a 7-1 lead. The Cougars added two more in the fifth to complete the sweep with a 5-inning  9-1 win.
Jordan Tavarez (0-1) took the loss for the Griffins.
The women's softball team returns to action on Sunday, March 23, 2025, when they take on the University of New haven in New Haven, Connecticut. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for noon.
