Chargers Take Two from Griffins

The Chestnut Hill College Softball team faced the University of New Haven Chargers Sunday afternoon in West Haven, Connecticut, dropping both ends of their doubleheader 8-0 and 6-2.

The Griffins fall to 9-15-1 with the two losses.  The Chargers improve to 6-12.

Chestnut Hill had just three hits in the opener with Kayla Rolon recording a triple and a single and Skyler Cunningham a single.  Anastasia Watson saw her 16-game hitting streak come to an end as she went hitless in three at-bats. Michelle Baker took the loss, pitching five+ innings, allowing 13 hits and eight runs.

The Chargers scored five runs in the first inning off four hits added another run in the second and scored their final two runs in the sixth to complete the eight-run rule win.  

In the second game, Jenn Pokropinski and Jazmine Ramirez had two hits apiece with Ramirez driving in two runs with a double.  Gabriella Quinones started and pitched five innings, allowing four runs on five hits.

New Haven jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Griffins responded with two runs in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead.  Watson singled with two outs and Pokropinski followed with a double to right field to put both runners in scoring position for Ramirez who also smacked a double into right field to score Watson and Pokropinski.

The Chargers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning and took a 4-2 lead with two more runs in the fifth.  UNH added two additional insurance runs in the sixth to make the final score 6-2.

The women's softball team returns home to face Holy Family University on Tuesday, March 25, 2025,  first pitch is at 2:00 p.m.
