The Chestnut Hill College Softball team were swept in a home doubleheader for the first time this season as Holy Family University defeated the Griffins 13-1 and 7-1 Tuesday afternoon at the CHC Softball field.
The Griffins were 4-1-1 at home entering Tuesday's games. The two losses drop Chestnut Hill's overall record to 9-17-1 overall and 2-6 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Tigers improve to 11-15 overall and 4-4 in league play.
Chestnut Hill had nine hits in the opener with Alauna Kelley recording three of them and Christina Contreras adding two and driving in the Griffins lone run. Jordan Tavarez took the loss allowing all 13 runs, only eight of which were earned.Â
Holy Family scored solo runs in the second and third innings before opening the game up with four runs in the fourth and another in the fifth, taking advantage of five Chestnut Hill errors over the two inning span. The Tigers added six more runs in the sixth inning  before the Griffins got on board in the final at-bat.
Izabella Rodriguez started a string of four consecutive two-out singles in the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring on Contreras' single through the left side to make the final score 13-1.
In game two, the Tigers scored seven runs in the first four innings and made it hold up for the 7-1 win.  Skyler Cunningham had two of the Griffins' five hits and drove in their lone run. Rebecca Cessna took the loss, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing seven runs (four earned) on six hits while striking out two. Isabelle Tetreault pitched the final 3.1 innings, allowing just three hits and zero runs while striking out four.
Chestnut Hill scored their lone run in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Jenn Pokropinski and Devin Warner singled to start the inning. Pokropinski was replaced on the base paths by Gabriella Quinones who reached on a fielder's choice. Two batters later Cunningham delivered a single to left field to score Warner from second base.
The women's softball team returns to action on Saturday, March 29, 2025, when they host the University of Bridgeport at the CHC Athletic field. First pitch for the doubleheader will be at 1:00 p.m.
