The Chestnut Hill college softball team's struggles on offense continued on Saturday as they were swept in a conference twinbill by the University of Bridgeport 7-1, and 6-0 Saturday afternoon at the CHC Softball field.
The Griffins fall to 9-19-1 with the two losses and 2-8 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Bridgeport improves to 19-9 overall.Â
Kayla Rolon had one of the Griffins' four hits in the opener and scored the only run. Jenn Pokropinski, Alauna Kelley and Camille Dunham also had one hit apiece. Anastasia Watson had the RBI. Jordan Tavarez took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits in 2.2 innings.
Bridgeport jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Griffins rallied to tie the score in the bottom of the second. Rolon led off with a double and moved to third on a throwing error. She scored on a fielder's choice when Watson hit a ball back to the pitcher and the senior Rolon beat the throw home.
The Purple Knights came right back and scored five runs in the third, chasing Tavarez out of the circle. Gabriella Quinones replaced her and allowed just one unearned run the rest of the way.
The Griffins recorded just one hit in game two, a third inning single by Dunham as the Purple Knights beat the Griffins 6-0. Isabelle Tetreault pitched six innings, allowing all six runs (four earned) while striking out five.
The women's softball team returns to action on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, when they travel to play Goldey-Beacom college in Wilmington, Delaware. First pitch is at 2:00 p.m.
