A short-handed Chestnut Hill College Women's Tennis team played their final home match of the 2024-25 season Sunday afternoon defeating Molloy University, 4-3 at the CHC Tennis Courts.
The Griffins improve to 13-6 while the Lions fall to 1-11.
Prior to the match, the athletics department and women's tennis team honored two of their senior players who were playing in their final home game of their career on Sunday; Romi Meirovich and Anisha Reddy Thada. The two players were introduced with a small excerpt of their accomplishments at Chestnut Hill and were presented with gifts from the department and the team.
With only four players available, the Griffins started the match trailing 2-0, having to forfeit the #5 and #6 singles matches as well as the #3 doubles.
The Griffins needed to win both doubles contest to earn the doubles point which they proceeded to do with Meirovich and Claudia Rasilla defeating Julia Salazar and Taylor Gunnip 6-0 at #2doubles and Elena Arenas Guisasola and Reddy defeating Elena Baughman Saunders and Erin Sanchez 6-4 at #1 doubles to make the score 2-1.
Rasilla evened the match at 2-2 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alice Fartushynska at #3 singles and Reddy put the Griffins ahead with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ashley Bonilla at #4 singles.
Meirovich then clinched the match for the Griffins with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Sanchez. At #1 singles, the "battle of the Elena's" went to Baughman Saunders  who scored a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4) win over Arenas to make the final score 4-3.
The women's team resumes action on Thursday April3, 2025 when they travel to face Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania. First serve is at 3:30 p.m.
