Anastasia Watson hit her first home run of the season as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Softball team won their fourth straight game, defeating Virginia Union University 5-0 Wednesday morning in Richmond, Virginia.

The Griffins improve to 5-6 with the win.  The Panthers fall to 1-12   Game two of the doubleheader was rained out.

Watson finished with two hits and three RBI, two of which came on her two-run home run. Alauna Kelley had three hits including a double while Christina Contreras added two, including a triple.  Skyler Cunningham also had two hits, one of which was a double.  Jordan Tavarez pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just five hits (all singles) while striking out two. 

Contreras tripled to lead off the game and Camille Dunham followed by reaching base on a walk and then stealing second.  Izabella Rodriguez then grounded out to first as Contreras scored.   Kelley then singled to score Dunham, giving the griffins a 2-0 lead.

Kelley hit a two-out double in the third behind Watson who home run over the centerfield fence to give Chestnut hill a 4-0 lead.  Watson drove in the Griffins' final run with a single in the top of the seventh, scoring Kelley who had reached base on an error.

The Panthers threatened in their last at-bat with a pair of singles before Tavarez induced a game-ending groundout to earn the win, her first of the season.

The women's softball team returns to action on Sunday, March 9, 2025, when they host Lincoln University at the CHC softball field.  First pitch is at 12:00 p.m.
