The Chestnut Hill College Women's Softball team swept a double header from Lincoln University on Sunday earning a pair of one run wins, 11-10 and 5-4 as the team opened the home portion of their schedule at the CHC Softball Field in Philadelphia.
The wins give the Griffins a 7-6 overall record and extend their winning streak to a school record six games. The Lions fall to 5-10.
Anastasia Watson hit a home run and a single, driving in three runs in game 2 while Christina Contreras had three hits and drove in two as the Griffins scored all their runs in their final three at-bats to pull out the one-run win. Isabelle Tetreault earned the win to improve to 3-0 on the season. Tetreault pitched a complete game, allowing just five hits while striking out four.
In the opening game, both teams combined for 21 runs and 26 hits with the Griffins holding off a seventh inning rally by the Lions to earn the one-run 11-10 win. Jazmine Ramirez had three hits and two RBI while Amaris Guzman had a double and a single and three RBI. Izabella Rodriguez and Alauna Kelley both drove in two runs while Contreras added two hits to the Griffins 12 total. Gabriella Quinones earned the complete game win, giving up five earned runs (ten total) while striking out eight.
Lincoln's Chloe Foster broke a scoreless tie game two with a two run home run in the third inning and the Lions added another run in the inning to lead 3-0. In the bottom of the fourth Kelley singled up the middle and Watson followed with her second home run of the season, a towering shot over the fence just right of dead center field to cut the lead to 3-2.
Watson tied the game in the fifth with an infield hit, scoring Contreras who reached earlier on an infield hit. The Lions retook the lead in top of the sixth with a solo run before the Griffins struck for two in the bottom half of the inning.
Jenn Pokropinski led off the inning with a walk and Lucianna Boggi sacrificed her over to second base. Camille Dunham reached on an error then stole second base, putting two runners in scoring position for Contreras who delivered a long single, plating both base runners and giving the Griffins a 5-4 lead.
Tetreault gave up a weak two-out single in Lincoln's final at-bat before striking out Aliya Rose for the third time in the game to earn the complete game win, her third consecutive win over the past eight days.
Chestnut Hill jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opener, scoring once in the first and four times in the second. Watson delivered a two-out RBI double in the first inning while Guzman plated two more with a double in the second. After Contreras scored on a wild pitch. Rodriguez delivered an RBI single for the Griffins fifth run.
Lincoln recorded five hits and scored five times in the top half of the third to tie the game at 5-5 but the Griffins responded with five runs of their own in the bottom half of the third.
Kayla Rolon tripled to right field to lead off the inning and later scored on Ramirez's single. Three batters later Guzman singled to score Ramirez, Rodriguez followed with a sacrifice fly and Kelley smacked a two-out two-RBI single to score Guzman and Contreras.
The Griffins' five run lead was short-lived as the Lions scored three times in the fourth to pull within two 10-8. Ramirez added her final RBI in the sixth on an infield ground out for an 11-8 CHC lead. Lincoln scored twice in their final at-bat to close within one 11-10 before Quinones induced a foul pop fly off the bat of Jordin Cathey to end the game.
