The Chestnut Hill College Women's Basketball team saw their season come to an end Tuesday night as Caldwell University handed the Griffins a 61-51 loss in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference quarterfinal game at Caldwell's Newman Center in Caldwell, New Jersey.
The Griffins finish their season with a 16-13 record.
Bri Rider led the Griffins with 14 points (7-15 FG). Bridie McCann added 12 points and a team high eight rebounds. The sophomore guard also had three steals. Tiayo Adelekan scored ten points. Rider and Sara Tamoun had six rebounds apiece. Tamoun and Tikyra Miller led the team with three assists each.
The Cougars who led by two at the half 29-27, used a 20-8 third quarter effort to put some distance between the them and the Griffins, taking a 49-35 lead heading into the final quarter. The Griffins opened the fourth quarter with a 7-0 run to cut the lead in half, 49-42 with Caleigh Edwards starting things off with a layup and McCann following with two baskets and Adelekan then adding a free throw.
Chestnut Hill extended the run to 14-3 to pull within three 52-49 with 4:34 left. Avery White hit a three-point basket while Adelekan and McCann added layups. White added another basket at the2:47 mark which was Chestnut Hill's only score in the final 4:34 as the Cougars finished the game on a 9-2 spurt for the ten point win.
Jah'Nel Lewis led the Cougars with 24 points while Lucy Coogan chipped in 17. Sophia DeMauro had 15 rebounds.
For the game, the Cougars shot slightly better than the Griffins, 36.4% (24-66) to 34.9% (22-63). Caldwell outscored Chestnut Hill 12-4 on the free throw line and outrebounded the Griffins 49-39 and had a 22-9 scoring advantage in the second chance points category.
Caldwell advances to the semi-finals on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Jefferson University with the win.
