The Chestnut Hill College Softball team dropped a non-league doubleheader Monday afternoon, losing to Bowier State University 6-4 and 9-2 at the BSU Softball field in Bowie Maryland.
The Griffins fell to 12-24-1 with the two losses. Â Bowie State is now 17-17.
Jazmine Ramirez and Isabella Rodriguez drove on two runs apiece for the Griffins in the opener. Michelle Baker took the complete game loss, allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits while striking out two.
The Bulldogs scored runs in four of the first five innings to jump out to a 6-0 lead before the Griffins got on the board in the top half of the sixth inning, where they scored all four of their runs.
Kayla Rolon walked to start the inning with Anastasia Watson reaching on an error. Skyler Cunningham's single loaded the bases for Rodriguez who slashed a double into right center field scoring the first two runs . Two batters later Ramirez singled to centerfield  as Cunningham and Rodriguez scored, closing the gap to 6-4.
The Griffins went down in order in the seventh to end the game.
Rolon and Christina Contreras had two hits apiece in game two with Rodriguez driving in both runs. Â Rebecca Cessna took the loss, allowing ten hits and striking out four.
The Griffins scored both their runs in the first inning as back-to-back singles from Amaris Guzman and Rolon followed by Cunningham reaching on an error loaded the bases for Rodriguez who singled into centerfield to score Guzman and Rolon to give Chestnut Hill the early 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom of the first and then scored three times in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. The hosts added another run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to complete the scoring for the 9-2 win.
The softball team returns to action on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, when they host Felician University  at the CHC Softball field for their final home games of the 2025 season. It is also senior day, and the team will honor their eight seniors prior to the start of the first game at 2 p.m.
