Griffins Split Doubleheader with Felician on Senior Day

The Chestnut Hill College Softball team celebrated their seniors Tuesday afternoon as they split a doubleheader with Felician University at the CHC Softball Field.

The Griffins won the opener 6-5 before falling in game two 4-1. Chestnut Hill is now 13-25-1 overall and 6-12 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Felician is now 12-30 overall and 5-11 in league play.

Prior to the start of the games, the Griffins recognized eight senior players who would be playing in their final home games of their career. The seniors include Gabriella Quinones, Skyler Cunningham, Camille Dunham, Kayla Rolon, Amaris Guzman, Jordan Tavarez, Erika Kwasek, and Anastasia Watson. All eight seniors have been an integral part of the Griffins' success this season whether it be pitching, hitting or defense. The ceremony recognized their accomplishments on their field as well as their success in the classroom.

The senior players played a big role in the game one win, contributing nine of the Griffins' 12 hits in the contest. Rolon had a double and a game tying homerun while Cunningham's sacrifice fly brought home the go-ahead run in the sixth inning, her third RBI of the game. Quinones pitched three innings but was also given a rare chance to hit and delivered with a single and a two-run double. Watson had two hits and Kwasek threw out a runner at second trying to steal, potentially saving a Felician run.

Isabelle Tetreault came in to pitch the final four innings to earn her seventh win of the season. She retired the first ten batters she faced before allowing a seventh inning single who she left stranded at second base after getting the final two outs.

Felician jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Griffins began to mount a comeback. In the bottom of the third inning, Guzman reached on an error and Rolon hit a double off the left field fence to put runners on second and third. Cunningham then delivered a hard single down the third base line to score Guzman and Rolon. Dunham and Watson followed with singles to load the bases, as Giselle McLaughlin came in to run for Cunningham. Quinones then delivered a one-out double to score McLaughlin and Dunham to make the score 5-4.

Rolon's first home run of the season, a shot over the left centerfield fence tied the game at 5-5 in the fifth. In the sixth Brynn Pollard was hit by a pitch to start the inning and moved to second on Guzman's single. Rolon then drew a walk to load the bases for Cunningham who hit a fly ball to left field to score Pollard on the sacrifice fly and give the Griffins a 6-5 lead.

Tetreault then shut the door on the Golden Falcons in the seventh to seal the win.

In game two, Lucianna Boggi's RBI single in the fourth inning provided the only offense as the Golden Falcons rallied to tie the score in the sixth and score three runs in the seventh to take home the 4-1 win and give the Griffins a split of the two-game set.

Tetreault took the loss in relief. She entered the game in the fourth inning when Felician had loaded the bases with nobody out with Tavarez pitching for CHC in a scoreless tie and retired three straight to get out of the jam. The Golden Falcons got to Tetreault in the sixth and seventh innings with two hits in each frame, scoring four times to secure   the win.

Eight different Griffin players had hits in the game with Devin Warner getting two singles. Boggi's single up the middle followed singles from Dunham and Izabella Rodriguez and plated Dunham with the Griffins' lone run.

The softball team returns to action on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, when they travel to Wilmington University for a doubleheader against the defending conference champions. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
