Wildcats Take Two from Griffins

Playing their third doubleheader in three days, the Chestnut Hill College Softball team struggled against defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion Wilmington University on Wednesday, losing both games of the twin bill, 10-0 and 3-1 at Asbury Field in New Castle, Delaware.

The Griffins fall to 13-27-1 overall and 6-14 in CACC games.  Wilmington improves to 27-15 overall and 16-4 in league play.

Christina Contreras had three hits in the second game while Kayla Rolon drove in Chestnut Hill's only run with a triple.  Michelle Baker took the loss  pitching a complete game and giving up three runs on six hits while striking out two.

Amaris Guzman singled to start the fourth inning and came around to score on Rolon's triple to left centerfield to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning stringing together four hits and taking advantage of a CHC error.   Chestnut Hill put the tying runs on base in their final at-bat  but was unable to score as the Wildcats prevailed.

In the opener, the Griffins were held to just two hits as the Wildcats earned a 10-0 win in five innings.  Skyler Cunningham (fourth inning singles) and Jenn Pokropinski (fifth inning single) had the Griffins only two hits.

Rebecca Cessna took the loss, giving up nine hits and five earned runs.

Wilmington scored once in the first inning and added three more runs in the second  and blew the game open with six runs in the fourth inning.

The softball team returns to action on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, when they close out conference play with a doubleheader at Dominican University. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
