Conference play concluded for the Chestnut Hill College Women's Softball team on Tuesday as their split their final Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader, winning the opening game against Dominican University 5-2 before falling in game two 3-1 at the DU softball field in Orangeburg New York.
The Griffins record now stands at 14-28-1 overall and 7-15 in CACC games.
Chestnut Hill scored three times in the final at bat in the opener to break a 2-2 tie as the team went on to win 5-2.  Six different players had at least one hit while Anastasia Watson drove in two runs.
Michelle Baker earned the win in relief of starter Isabelle Tetreault, pitching two scoreless innings without allowing a hit. Tetreault allowed the two Charger runs on five hits while striking out four over five innings of work.
The Chargers took advantage of a Griffins error in the third inning and hit a home run to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
In the sixth inning, Amaris Guzman drew a leadoff walk and two batters later Skyler Cunningham delivered a one-out single. Camille Dunham then hit a ground out but advanced the runners before Watson delivered a two out single to score Guzman and Brynn Pollard (who was running for Cunningham), tying the game at 2-2.
Christina Contreras reached on a fielders choice and advanced when Guzman walked for the second consecutive time. An infield error brought Contreras home with the go ahead run before Cunningham singled down the left field line, scoring Guzman and then Kayla Rolon who had reached on the earlier error in the inning to put the Griffins ahead 5-2.
In the Chargers final at-bat, a Griffin error put their leadoff runner on before Baker bore down and retired the next three batters to end the game and earn the win.
Watson had three hits in game two while Jenn Pokropinski added two as the Griffins dropped a3-1 decision to the Chargers. Jordan Tavarez took the loss, allowing the three runs on five hits.
Dominican scored twice in the second and added their third run in the fifth to lead 3-0. The Griffins did not get on the board until their final at bat when Mikayla Yuricheck triple to lead off the inning and later scored on a wild pitch to account for the Griffins lone run as the next three CHC batters were retired.
The softball team returns to action for their final doubleheader of the season on April 29, 2025, when they travel to nearby Gwynedd Mercy University for a twin bill.
