A late inning rally by the Chestnut Hill College Baseball team gave the Griffins a split of their two-game series with Felician University, winning game two 8-3. The Golden Falcons recorded a 13-6 win in game one.
The Griffins improve to 11-14 overall and 6-8 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The golden Falcons are now 15-12 overall and 9-5 in league play.
Dylan Broderick earned the win in the nightcap, tossing 5.2 innings while allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three. Colby Seelig pitched the final 1.1 innings, facing just two batters above the minimum while keeping the Golden Falcons off the scoreboard to earn his fifth save of the season.
Michael Pascoe and Kenyon Motley had three hits apiece while Motley, Alexander Fascia and Wyatt Spinks drove in two runs apiece.
The Golden Falcons scored all their runs in the third inning, jumping out to a 3-0 lead before the Griffins got on the board in the fourth, when Phoenix Bowman scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Spinks.
Chestnut Hill tied the game in the top half of the fifth. A sacrifice fly from Justin Geiger plated Aiden Myers and Motley followed with a single to score Pascoe.
Nick Shiffler doubled with one out in the sixth with Angus Moore replacing him on the basepaths. Moore then scored the go-ahead run after Spinks singled.
Now leading 4-3, Broderick hit the first batter he faced in the sixth inning. The Felician runner later made it to second, putting the tying run in scoring position. Seelig replaced Broderick on the mound and promptly got out of the inning preserving the lead.
The Griffins scored four insurance runs in the seventh inning with an RBI single from Motley, a fielder's choice from Bowman and a two-RBI single from Fascia to take an 8-3 lead.
Seelig put two runners on via a hit batter and a walk in Felician's final at-bat but kept them off the scoreboard to give the Griffins the win.
In the opener, Felician scored five runs in the fifth inning to break a 3-3 tie as they went on to beat the Griffins 13-6.
Jason Kelly had three hits and drove in two runs while Geiger knocked in a pair of runs and had two hits and three stolen bases. Jake Schweiker took the loss tossing five innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits.
Kelly singled to score Geiger in the second with the first Griffin run as CHC took a 1-0 lead. The Golden Falcons tied the game in the bottom half of the inning before Pascoe put the Griffins ahead 2-1 with an RBI single in the third.
The Golden Falcons scored twice in the bottom half of the third to take a 3-2 lead before Spinks delivered a sacrifice fly in the fourth to tie the game 3-3. Felician then got to Schweiker for five runs on five hits in the fifth to forge ahead 8-3.
Kelly had his second RBI in the sixth, singling to center field to score Geiger to close the deficit to 8-4. However, Felician added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the seventh to lead 13-4.
Chestnut Hill scored their final two runs in the ninth as Pascoe and Motley walked and stole a base before Geiger laced a single into center field to score both runners with the Griffins' fifth and sixth runs.
The baseball team returns to action on Thursday, April 3, 2025, when they host Lincoln University for a conference doubleheader at Hostelley Field. The first pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
