Six Griffins Score but Women's Lacrosse Team Falls to Bridgeport

Six different players scored but the offensive effort by the Chestnut Hill College Women's Lacrosse team fell short as the University of Bridgeport defeated the Griffins 20-11 Friday afternoon at Knights field in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

The Griffins fall to 2-5 overall and 2-3 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.  The Purple knights improve to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in league play.

Molly Killion led the Griffins with four goals while Abby Galazka and Kendall Gayton had two goals apiece.  Gayton also recorded two assists. Anna Sanverdine had a goal and an assist while Jenna Gagliardi and Nicole George also scored goals.

Killion also led the team with five ground balls while Gayton recorded four caused turnovers and won nine draw controls.  Erin McCarthy made six saves in net for the Griffins.

The Purple Knights scored he first two goals before Sanverdine and Galazka added unassisted scores to tie the game at 2-2.  Bridgeport scored two goals to lead 4-2 before Killion scored the first of her four goals to pull the Griffins within one 4-3.  Gayton garnered the assist on the goal.  Two more UB goals followed before Gagliardi closed out the scoring in the first quarter with a man-up goal in the final minute with Allyson Smith getting the assist, cutting UB's lead to 6-4.

Gayton scored both her goals in the second quarter with her second coming as the Griffis were a man-up with 1:19 left, making the score 10-6 by halftime.

Chestnut Hill scored three straight goals to open the third quarter, closing within one 10-9.  Sanverdine assisted on George's goal and Killion tallied two goals within a minute including a man-up goal at 12:38, pulling the Griffins within one. 10-9.

Five straight goals from the Purple Knights increased their lead to 15-9 heading into the fourth quarter.  Galazka opened the scoring with her second goal of the game at the 10:48 mark, giving the senior her second consecutive multiple goal game.  Killion followed with her fourth goal of the game with 9:17 left, making the score 15-11. 

UB closed out the game with five unanswered goals to make the final score 20-11.

The women's lacrosse team returns to action on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, when they travel to face Holy Family University at Tiger Field.  First draw is set for  6:00 p.m.
