Griffins Rally to Defeat Purple Knights

The Chestnut Hill College Men's Lacrosse team used a second half rally to defeat host University of Bridgeport, 7-5 Saturday evening at Knights field in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

The Griffins got back on the winning track after suffering their first conference loss of the season earlier in the week and improved to 4-1 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference games and 5-4 overall.  The Purple knights drop to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in league play.

Five different players scored for the Griffins, led by Jayden Basalatan and Mick Kilgallon scoring two goals apiece.  Jake Ballerini, Austin Derx and Noah Hammon had a goal apiece.  Hammon also assisted on two goals and Kilgallon one.

Evan Farlow led the team with three ground balls while Sam Koehler and Silas Charles had two caused turnovers apiece.  Goalkeeper Adam Daley made 13 saves.

Basalatan's first goal in the first quarter tied the game at 1-1 with 8:56 left.  The Purple knights scored twice more before the quarter ended to lead 3-1, heading into the second quarter.  

Hammon scored his only goal of the game at the 13:09 mark of the second quarter and Kilgallon added a man-down goal with 4:20 left to tie the game at 3-3.  Bridgeport scored 1:14 later to take a 4-3 lead by halftime.

The Griffins quickly tied the game with a goal by Kilgallon in the first minute of the third quarter.  Kilgallon's goal was the first of four straight goals by the Griffins as the took command with a 7-4 lead in the fourth quarter.  Derx scored with 11:44 left in the third quarter as Hammon got the assist while Basalatan and Ballerini added scores less than two minutes apart in the fourth quarter as Hammon and Kilgallon respectively assisted on the goals.

The Purple knights scored with 5:11 left to close out the scoring.  The Griffins defense limited Bridgeport to just one shot on goal in the final five minutes to preserve the 7-5 win.

The men's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, April 12, 2025, when they travel to face Caldwell University.  Faceoff is set for 12:00p.m.
