The Chestnut Hill college Baseball team saw their season come to an end Friday as Jefferson university swept their CACC Tournament first round Doubleheader 9-8 and 12-1 at Jefferson's Alumni field.
The Griffins finish their season at 25-22. Their 25 wins are the most in a season by the program since  2109 when the team went 28-22 and also lost in the first round of the conference tournament.
Chestnut Hill trailed for all of the game until the ninth inning when the team rallied for three runs to tie the score at 8-8. The Rams then produced the winning run early in the ninth inning to finish off the 9-8 win.
Colby Seelig took the loss pitching in the ninth inning allowing a walk, a sacrifice and a double. He finishes the season at 5-5.
Justin Geiger had three hits and an RBI while Michael Benedetto III, Kenyon Motley and Nick Shiffler had two hits apiece. Motley extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a double in the second inning and added one more onto that number, getting a triple late in game two to finish the season with a 12-game hitting streak. Dylan Broderick drove in two with a two-run home run while Benedetto also had two RBI.
The Rams jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings, chasing CHC starting pitcher Jason Kelly. Kelly struck out five in his final appearance for the Griffins. RBI singles from Geiger and Motley put two runs on the board in the top half of the fourth, cutting the lead to 5-2 before the Rams expanded the margin to 8-2 with three runs in the sixth.
Broderick's two run home run in the op of the seventh closed the gap to 8-4. Geiger made the score 8-5 in the eighth when he scored on a wild pitch.
In the ninth inning, the Griffins loaded the bases as Rams reliever AJ Lefton hit three straight batters all on the first pitch of their at-bat. (Michael Melosky,  Broderick and Wyatt Spinks.). Benedetto then delivered a double down the right field line to score Angus Moore (running for Broderick) and Bobby Sabatino (running for Melosky) to put the tying run at third in an 8-7 ballgame. Pascoe then delivered a one-out single through the right side to score Spinks with the tying run.
Seelig came in for the bottom of the ninth and walked his first batter, who was sacrificed to second. Jay Salsbery then hit one into right field that got past a diving Benedetto, allowing the winning run to score.
In game two, the Griffins put runners on base in the first five innings but were unable to score. The Rams, however, put runs on the board in each of the first five innings and took an 11-0 lead.
The Griffins finally broke through on the scoreboard in the eighth inning as Geiger drew a two-out walk  and Motley followed with a triple to centerfield to as Geiger scored. Shiffler and Kelly walked to load the bases but were left stranded. Chestnut Hill  was retired in order in the ninth inning as the Rams secured a 12-1 win, ending the season for the Griffins.
Michael Pascoe, Motley and Spinks had the only three hits for Chestnut Hill. Broderick took the loss to finish the season at 7-3.
