Griffins Earn First Win of Season, Defeating Lightning 2-1

Two early first half goals provided all the offense the Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team needed as they earned their first win of the season Tuesday night, defeating Goldey-Beacom College 2-1 at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.

The Griffins improve to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Lightning fall to 0-4  overall and 0-1 in league play.

Rebecca Dalton put the Griffins on the board , taking a pass from Kendall Gayton on the left side of the field and put it past the Lightning goalkeeper to give Chestnut hill a 1-0 lead at the 5:40 mark.

Hayden Johnston's goal at the 18:50 mark gave the Griffins a 2-0 lead, a lead they maintained throughout the rest of the game.

Goldey-Beacom scored their lone goal in the 75th minute as Nataly Ruiz snuck one past Griffin goalkeeper Ellie Stratz to cut the lead to 2-1. Stratz finished the game with three saves.

Following the Lightning goal, the Griffins defense tightened up even further allowing just one shot the rest of the way. The Griffins offense put seven shots on goal in the final 13 minutes finishing the game with 16 shots on goal, while holding the Lightning to just four. Overall Chestnut Hill outshot Goldey-Beacom 26-7.  Johnston led the team with eight total shots (six on frame).  Dalton added five total shots (two on net).

The women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, September 20, 2025, when they host Felician University at Victory Field. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
