The Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team had their modest two-game winning streak broken as region-ranked Caldwell University scored in the opening minutes of the second half and made it stand for a 1-0 win over the Griffins Saturday afternoon at the Caldwell Athletic Field in Caldwell, New Jersey.
The Griffins fall to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Games The Cougars, ranked #10 in the recent United Soccer Coaches East Region poll, improve to 5-0-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.
Chestnut hill put pressure on the Cougar defense in the first half, recording ten total shots with four of them landing on net but were unable to score as the two teams headed to halftime in a scoreless tie.Â
The tie was broken just 1L41 into the second period as the Cougars got their first shot of the game past Griffin goalkeeper  Ellie Stratz for a 1-0 lead. Rosio Cardenas had the score following a Cougar corner kick.
As the game continued the Griffins fired eight more shots with three of them on net, while the Cougars who were held without a single shot in the first half fired 12 more, with six of them landing on frame.
For the game, the Griffins outshot the Cougars 18-13 with both teams recording seven shots on goal. Lauren Sullivan had three of the Griffins' seven on goal attempts with Hayden Johnston, Chelsea Ritter, Rebecca Dalton and Bryce Westervelt recording the other four.
Stratz made five saves in goal for the Griffins.
The women's soccer team returns to action on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, with a game at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, New Jersey. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
