A goal by Alyssa DeGeorge late in the game provided all the offense the Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team needed as they defeated Georgian Court University 1-0 Tuesday afternoon at GCU's Investors Savings Bak Field in Lakewood, New Jersey.
The Griffins improve to 3-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference matches and 3-5 overall. The Lions fall to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in league play.
DeGeorge's goal, a long kick from the left side that found the upper right corner of the net  in the 78th minute broke a scoreless tie and gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead. The Griffins' continued their solid defensive play, holding the Lions to zero shots in the final  12 minutes to give goalkeeper Ellie Stratz her second shutout of the season.
Stratz faced just three shots on goal in the entire game and none in the final 25 minutes. The Lions did take a penalty kick in the 67th minute but their attempt hit the crossbar and bounced back into the field of play.
The Griffins, meanwhile peppered the Lions defense all afternoon firing 12 shots (six on frame) in the first half and adding eight more in the second (three on goal).  Hayden Johnston finished the game with three shots on goal while Rebecca Dalton added two. DeGeorge (goal), Lauren Sullivan, Bryce Westervelt, and Jenna Gagliardi also had shots on goal for the Griffins.
The women's soccer team returns to action on Friday, October 3, 2025 when they travel to face Southern Connecticut State University. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
