The Chestnut Hill College Women's Soccer team came up short in their season opener Friday afternoon, falling to Northeast-10 powerhouse St. Michael's College 2-1 at victory Field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins' lone goal came midway through the first period as Rebecca Dalton headed in a shot attempt after receiving a long free kick from Lauren Sullivan at the 22:30, cutting the Purple Knights lead to 2-1.
St. Michael's (2-0) had gotten on the board some six minutes earlier, as the CHC defense had a momentary lapse, giving up two quick goals in a 45 second span between the 16th and 17th minute. Both scores came off the foot of Scarlett Brookes.
With the score now 2-1, Griffin goalkeepers Haley Esposito and Ellie Stratz did not let another shot by the Purple Knights into the net the rest of the game. Esposito faced just one shot on net for the remainder of the first half and finished the half with two saves.
Stratz took over the netminding duties in the second half, stopping five shots without allowing a score. The Griffins offense, however, struggled to get good shots, putting just two on net in the period as the Purple Knights prevailed for their second win of the season.
The Griffins finished the game with nine total shots with Chelsea Ritter leading the way with three and Dalton adding two. Five shots were on frame with Ritter landing two, Dalton scoring on one and Hayden Johnston and Virginia Perry tallying the remaining two shots on goal.
The Purple Knights outshot the Griffins, 17-9 (9-5 on net).
The women's soccer team returns to action on Sunday, September 7, 2025 when they travel to face Pace University in new Rochelle New York. Kick off is set for 5 p.m.
