Griffins Split Doubleheader with Broncos

The Chestnut Hill College Softball team continued their southern trip on Thursday, splitting a doubleheader with Fayetteville State University, winning the opening game 4-2 while losing game two 12-4.

The Griffins are now 3-3 on the season.

Belle Tetreault earned the complete game win in the opener, allowing just two runs while striking out six. 

Jenn Pokropinski and Devin Warner had two hits apiece while Pearl McKay drove in two runs.  Pokropinski and Izabella Rodriguez had one RBI apiece.

The Broncos struck first with a run in the first inning.  The Griffins responded with two runs in the third inning.  Madison Band walked and stole second and advanced to third on a fly ball out.  Hannah Theuret walked and stole second.  McKay then reached on an infield error scoring Band and Theuret and giving the Griffins a 2-1 lead.

In the fifth inning Warner singled and Giselle McLaughlin ran for her. She promptly stole second and scored on Pokropinski's single. Rodriguez followed with a single to score McLaughlin  and make the score 4-1. 

Fayetteville State scored once more in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly.  Tetreault retired the side in order in the seventh to secure the win.

In game two the Broncos scored nine runs in the first two innings as the cruised to a five inning 12-4 win.

Rebecca Cessna took the loss.  McKay finished the game with three hits while Theuret had two. Mikayla Pengelly had two RBI.

The Griffins did not get on the scoreboard until thew top half of the fifth inning when they plated four runs.  Band and Haley Kober drew two-out walks before Pengelly doubled to right field scoring both runners.  Kayla Childress followed with a double to score Pengelly  and McKay singled to score Moira Maw who entered to run for Childress.

FSU scored three times in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

The softball team concludes their southern trip with a doubleheader tomorrow, March 6, 2026 at Shaw University.  First pitch is set for noon.
