On Monday, the Chestnut Hill College Softball team finally took to the field after weekend weather forced postponement of their doubleheader against Dominican University twice. The Griffins split their two-game series with the Chargers, dropping the opener, 6-3 and winning game two 8-7.
The Griffins improve to 5-25 overall and 1-15 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.
Senior Day festivities were also postponed and were held prior to the start of Monday's games. The team had only one senior to be honored, catcher Jazmine Ramirez. The athletics department and the team presented Ramirez with gifts and flowers as her accomplishments were read to those in attendance. The team also presented flowers to each of the seniors on the Dominican team.
Ramirez was the start in the game two win, recording two hits, a double and a single and three RBI. Jenn Pokropinski also had two hits. Nicole Swatko earned her first collegiate win tossing six innings and allowing seven runs while striking out three. Rebecca Cessna earned the save, pitching a perfect seventh inning.
The Chargers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before the Griffins rallied with three runs in the second. Hailey Kober took advantage of some Dominican miscommunication and scored the first run. Three batters later Ramirez delivered a double that went to the fence, scoring Pokropinski and Mikayla Pengelly and giving CHC a 3-2 lead.
In the third inning, with the Griffins trailing again, 4-3, Ramirez singled to score Pengelly with the tying run. Moira Maw then scored on a wild pitch to give Chestnut Hill a 5-4 lead. An infield error by the Chargers plated two more runs and a wild pitch after Kayla Childress struck out, put Childress on at first when she beat the throw as Kassidy Colangelo scored, giving the Griffins an 8-4 lead.
Dominican scored twice in the fourth and added one more in the sixth before Cessna came in a shut the door to preserve the win.
In the opener, seven different Griffins recorded hits with Ramirez getting a double and Madison Band a pair of singles but the Chargers pulled away in the later innings to produce a 6-3 win.
Belle Tetreault took the loss , allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits.
Pokropinski's single in the second inning produced CHC's first run and Ramirez's double in the third inning gave the griffins a 2-0 lead.
The Chargers tied the game in the fourth inning at 2-2 before the Griffins went back ahead following a bases loaded walk to Pengelly that brought home Giselle McLaughlin with the third Griffin run.
The Chargers scored three times in the fifth inning and once more in the sixth inning to round out the scoring.
The softball team will close out their season on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 when they host Wilmington University in their final conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
