The Chestnut Hill College Softball, seeking their first conference win of the 2026 season took on area rival Jefferson University Wednesday at the CHC Softball field. The Griffins dropped both games to the Rams, losing the opener 11-5 and game two 12-1.
The Griffins fall to 4-14 overall and 0-6 in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference games. The Rams improve to 11-11 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Chestnut Hill starter Belle Tetreault took the loss, giving up eight runs in six innings with just one of those eight being an earned run. She also struck out two batters. Pearl McKay drove in two runs while Brynn Pollard, Izabella Rodriguez and Moira Maw had two hits apiece.
The Rams jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the third inning and the Griffins countered with two in the bottom of the third to lead 2-1. Pollard delivered a two-out single and Mikayla Pengelly and Rodriguez walked to load the bases for McKay who drilled a single into left field to score Pollard and Pengelly.
An outfield error allowed two Jefferson runners to score in the fourth as the visitors reclaimed the lead, 3-2. The Rams made it 4-2 in the fifth following an infield error by the Griffins. Four more unearned runs in the sixth upped the Rams lead to 8-2.
Kassidy Colangelo scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 8-3, but the Rams added three more in the seventh inning off reliever Rebecca Cessna. The Griffins made a final comeback attempt in the seventh inning with Pollard, Pengelly and Rodriguez hitting consecutive singles as Pollard scored on the Rodriguez hit. A two-out walk to Madison Band loaded the bases and Maw delivered an infield single to score Pengelly with the final Chestnut Hill run.
In game two, Jefferson scored seven times in the second inning and added five more over the next three innings as they went on to a 12-1 five-inning win.
Michelle Baker took the loss. Aubrey Cammuso drove in the lone Griffin run with a double.
Cammuso's double came in the second inning after the Rams took a 7-0 lead. Rodriguez led off with a walk. A wild pitch and a groundout moved her to third . Hailey Kober then walked putting runners on the corners for Cammuso who hit a double down the right field line to score Rodriguez.
Trailing 9-1 after Jefferson scored twice in the third, the Griffins threatened in the bottom half on the inning, loading the bases after draw three straight walks with nobody out. Three straight outs followed and the Griffins left the bases load. Pengelly had a leadoff double in the fifth for Chestnut Hill's final hit of the game but did not advance any further as the Rams retired the next three CHC batters to win the game.
The softball team returns to action on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 with a doubleheader at Delaware State University. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
